This week at Marmara Campus we looked at three strategies to use to help us choose a “Just right Book” from the library.<\/p>\n

We learned TWO helpful words when it comes to choosing books<\/p>\n

First word – browse<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n

1.to eat, nibble at, or feed on (leaves, tender shoots, or other soft vegetation). like a giraffe does<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

2.to graze; pasture on.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

3. to look through or glance at casually: He’s browsing the shelves for something to read.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When we browse for something to read we look at the displays, look at the shelves, take our time and look at many books. We c<\/p>\n

an use our shelf markers to hold the place where the book was so if we don’t like it we can return it to the right spot.<\/p>\n

Second word – peruse<\/h1>\n

to read through with thoroughness or care: to peruse a report.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

to survey or examine in detail.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

When we peruse the book we can go to a page and use the five finger method to decide if the book is too hard. Our students practiced this today.<\/div>\n

We can also use Destiny<\/a> to narrow our search for a book\u00a0<\/strong>by using the Narrow Search menu and Interest level. Our students also tried using this feature on Destiny.<\/div>\n
